Chief Executive Officer
Martin began his IT career in the early 1980s, working for large blue chip companies such as Old Mutual and Barclays Bank. With experience in both Europe and the US, he co-founded Emerald Solutions, which specialised in developing large-scale internet applications for companies such as Nike, Intel and AT&T. As the CEO at Emerald, Martin raised approximately $40 million in venture capital funding. When he returned to South Africa in 2001, Martin was involved in a number of technology businesses before becoming CEO of Psitek, the founding company of Kazang Connect. Martin is now the CEO of Kazang Connect which was acquired by Cash Connect Management Solutions (Pty) Ltd in 2020.
Julian van Reenen
Chief Financial Officer
Julian was appointed CFO for the Kazang Group in January 2012 where he is responsible for all administrative, legal and accounting matters. Prior to this, he had spent a decade in various financial roles at Psitek, joining as financial manager and becoming group financial manager when Saicom Group bought Psitek’s prepaid vending division. Previous experience includes heading up the South African group accounting for a German refrigeration company.
Chief Information Officer
Grant leads the team of software engineers, web developers and system administrators that develop and maintain ContentReady, Kazang Connect and Saicom Payphones. As chief designer at Psitek, Grant was instrumental in designing and building the fleet of payment and communications services, and hardware. He developed ContentReady independently after a management buy-out from Psitek, then rejoined the Kazang Connect fold after the merger.
Director of Operations & International
Francois looks after all Operations and Support functions for Kazang Connect locally and internationally. He started his career at Telkom as a Trainee Technician in 1982 and after qualifying, spent many years managing service delivery and support functions for Telkom, Siemens and Psitek in the Telecommunications industry.
Director of Sales: Inland
Mark began his career in the early 1980s, graduating from UCT with a BSc degree in Computer Science. After some time working as a programmer, Mark got involved in a start-up called Retail Control System (RCS) developing, marketing and distributing IT solutions around Point of Sale systems in the retail and hospitality industries. Early 1990s, Mark exited from RCS and joined another start-up that developed systems in the telephone management and least-cost routing space. In 2006, Mark got involved with the electricity metering company, Actaris and the distribution of prepaid electronic vouchers to the informal retail market. His new business called XplainIT became an agent for Actaris, introduced the prepaid voucher vending concept to Psitek and then became an agent for Psitek. In 2011, Kazang Connect acquired XplainIT and Mark joined the Kazang Connect team.
Director of Sales: Coastal Regions
Fred graduated as a Civil Engineer in the late 1980s and gained extensive experience in construction and property development before doing an MBA in 2000. He joined MassMart in 2001 and was a key contributor to group growth through his roles as MD of Jumbo Cash & Carry, Operations Director of MassCash and MD of Builders Trade Depot. In 2010, Fred embarked on various entrepreneurial ventures, including a self-service technology start up. Fred joined Kazang Connect in February 2020 bringing a strong blend of entrepreneurship and corporate leadership experience to the role of Director of Sales - Coastal.
CEO Sandulela & Business Development Director
After completing his post-graduate in Account Management and Media in 1996, Nkululeko worked for the FCB Group 1997 to 2000. He joined Vodacom in 2000 as Brand Manager and in 2001 was appointed to Vodacom International’s commercial division which saw him being seconded to the newly established Vodacom Congo as Executive Head of Marketing. On his return from the Congo assignment, Nkululeko was appointed Marketing and Sales Director and sat on the board of Vodacom Lesotho before founding Sandulela Technology in 2003. In 2017, Sandulela was acquired by Kazang. Nkululeko remains the CEO of Sandulela and has since joined the Executive Committee of Kazang Connect as well stepping into the role of Director for the Business Development team.
Director: Kazang Pay
Ashley is a Chartered Accountant who worked for PWC, both in South Africa as well as the USA. He then moved into investment banking in 2011 where he spent 7 years with Nedbank Capital. His roles spanned across Finance and Strategy, Credit Risk Management and Corporate Finance during his time with the bank. In 2018 he was appointed by Hello Paisa to head up Business Development and Internal Remittance for Africa. During his time at Hello Paisa he ran Operations, Business Development and Sales. He set up network within various African countries to facilitate the movement of international remittances for the South African diaspora market. This network was responsible for moving in excess of R150 million per month into Africa and employed over 200 people both in South Africa as well as Africa. He was appointed by Kazang in 2021 to head up Kazang Pay.
